The baffling clip shows a distinct purple tint to the night sky in front of a motorist in Cleveland.
To prove the colour isn’t just the result of reflections from his window, the cameraman then moves his phone out of the car to record it.
And the purple sky remains.
“That’s out of the window, that’s crazy,” he said.
“Something must be happening in space to cause it”
“Look at the sky, though, that’s crazy.”
The strange video was originally posted by YouTube user Jbreez216 on October 13.
It has since garnered more than 270,000 views since being re-posted by renowned conspiracy channel secureteam10.
Viewers were quick to rush to the comments section to offer their thoughts.
“These glowing skies seem a bit suspect,” one wrote.
“Something must be happening in space to cause it.”
Another added: “The coloured skies must be caused by energy, photons and electrons.
“I’m no Einstein but could there be some kind of energy in space?”
A third was equally confused, saying: “That purple sky is crazy. That has me confused as I have not been able to find an explanation online.”
But another user had a more logical explanation.
“Purple sky is a pre or post-thunderstorm (hurricane/tropical storm) phenomenon caused by light bending in rain clouds,” they wrote.
It comes after the sky again turned the eerie colour above the Philippines – sparking claims the end of the world was near.
